Clay statue, 10 (h) x 4 (w) x 3 (d) cm.
Masamijizo is a small stone statue representing bodhisattva -a person who has generated a compassionate mind to attain Buddhahood- made by Masami Yamagiwa. Yamagiwa has created hundreds of thousand of these small statues at Atelier Yamanami in Japan (http://a-yamanami.jp/wordpress/artists/yamagiwa/) over more than 20 years.
Some of Art Brut creators are well-known for their attachment to certain forms and constant recreation of these forms. Far from being an obsessive repetition of a form, each of their works seems to be a eulogy for infinite number of faces a form can take.
