“When are you in control and when do you have to go with the flow? Are you ever really free, or are more or less invisible strings constantly keeping you in place? Where is the boundary between power and submission?”

Maria strolls the vulnerable frontiers between the physical and conceptual establishing a concreate but fragile balance between the real and the abstract object. Through “Bondage 3” in collaboration with bondage artist Nawashi Go Arizue, she questions the relationship of power and the matter not only in terms of her artistic material but also her body and life itself with her series of works making her physical existence merged with Japanese Shibari art and the 7.000 year old Japanese ceramic tradition, Jomon as the subject matter of her creation.
