Koczy who was racially a Jew was deported from Germany in 1942 at the age of 3 and survived two concentration camps. The killings, the shavings, the bleachings, the torture, the hunger, the cold, typhus and tuberculosis, namely multiple forms of suffering and death that she witnessed as a child later on dominated her art.
