Lena Biresch
Lena Biresch originally comes from the theatre world, where she worked as a playwright and director. Since 2016, she has been increasingly involved with new immersive and interactive media, which led to her training as a game programmer with a focus on virtual reality, which she completed with a diploma in 2020. Since then, she has been working as a freelance virtual reality experience designer at the intersection of games and digital art, and has been a fellow and artist in residence at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund, Schaubude Berlin (Germany) and Moskosel Creative Lab (Sweden), among others.
Biresch’s work is often about the interlocking of different realities, dimensions and perspectives. For example, she combines VR with AR in playful, speculative designs to test the effects on how we perceive the world. Biresch is also interested in experiencing virtual physicality in the form of non-human avatars. In 2021 she founded the virtual reality collective PRESS [ST]ART, which also focuses on the interactivity and staging of VR.
